In the East India variety, it is a species propagated by seed for sowing. The leaves are slightly narrower and resemble more grass than Cymbopogon citratus, the original Indian variant, which, however, is distributed by division. In our case, the plant does not bloom.

Use / Application: For lemongrass, such as for the bay leaf, only the leaves are used. They break and lightly crush at the bottom thick of the leaf. This enhances the aroma. They are especially suitable for soups with coconut milk, chicken, Walk and seafood. They can also be used for tea and for flavoring compote. Leaves are used in cooking, but they are not eaten as they have stranded fibers.

Origin: Lemon grasses originate in Southeast Asia and India.

Propagation: At a temperature of 20-25 ° C propagation takes place in about 15-25 days. The seeds are spread on greenhouse soil (poor in substances and germs and permeable water) or soil suitable for herbs and spices, pressed lightly and covered with a thin layer. Up to germination is kept evenly moist but not wet. All types of lemongrass have a germination rate of about 55%.

Care: Lemongrass loves year-round bright, sunny and warm places. During the summer it is possible to move to a warm open place. The soil should not dry out and the plant should be regularly fertilized during the growing season.

Wintering: The wintering area should be as light as possible and of course not freezing. It is advisable to add new soil in winter, even though the plant is in a resting phase. In winter, browning of the edges of individual leaves may occur.
