Sweet pepper - `California Wonder` / 20 seeds
(Capsicum annum)
An old sweet pepper / Particularly aromatic and sweet!
Interesting facts: The `California Wonder` variety is easy to care for - ripens quickly - suitable for outdoor use - and produces large, quite sweet block peppers. These ripen from green to red, have only a thin, shiny skin and are perfectly thick-fleshed. This makes them ideal for eating straight away, both green and red. Also excellent in salads, grilled and fried. Of course, they are also a delight when stuffed. The special feature is making jam/marmalade from them, as the fruits have a fruity, sweet taste.
In warm locations outdoors (on a wall) or in the greenhouse, the yield is usually significantly higher. As a plant, it tends to grow tall and strong.
Give the young plants suitable fertilizer at the beginning of May. Special tomato and pepper fertilizer has a long-term effect and can be easily worked into the nutrient-rich soil. The location should be bright to sunny and warm. The more sunlight the plants get, the better they thrive - 5 hours of sun per day is ideal, but this might be difficult here. Water generously and the water temperature should not be below 14° C. At night the temperature should not fall below 8° C. Pepper plants always look neat and become even more beautiful when the fruits turn from green to red in late summer/early autumn or decorate the balcony or terrace in yellow or dark purple. Then the harvest takes place and you can use this type in a variety of ways, but carefully. Enjoy your meal - if possible!
Before sowing, moisten the soil, sprinkle seeds on it, cover it very thinly and press down lightly. At 20° C the seeds germinate after 8-15 days. You can also just press the seeds onto the soil, as they are light germinators. After 2-3 weeks, the young plants can be pricked out (separated) and from May onwards they can be planted outdoors.
The germination rate is around 85% and only decreases slowly.
