What you need to know: This pit trap has an upright tube that is rotated 180° at the dome. The shape of a "split snake tongue" is also visible there, which is why it is called cobra lily. This tongue is covered with nectaries that are supposed to attract the insects and lead them into the interior of the tubes.

We supply the seeds with special carnivorous soil in which the plants can remain even after cultivation.

Origin: The cobra lily is native to northern and southern California.

Cultivation: Moisten the sowing substrate well and place the seeds on top of the substrate. As they germinate in light, they must not be covered with soil. At a temperature of 15° to 20° C, the seeds germinate after 3 to 6 weeks. Do not let the substrate dry out.

Location / light: A sunny or shady spot is possible. In full sun, the plants remain short and get a reddish coating. In the shade, they stay green and even bloom.

Care: The Darlingtonia is best grown in warm indoor rooms but requires high humidity. It can tolerate temperatures of up to 30° C in summer. Therefore, you should spray the plant more often with low-lime water. Water well, but unlike other carnivores, avoid waterlogging, as otherwise the root area will rot. Use permeable raised bog peat with a quarter of lime-free sand or sphagnum as a planting substrate.

Wintering: An ideal wintering temperature is between 12° and 16° C. Water the plant a little less from September (keep it drier) and then more again from February.
