Chili - AJI Amarillo / 10 seeds
(Capsicum baccatum)
The Peruvian chili par excellence - super tasty!
Variety description: "THE YELLOW" ...This striking AJI Amarillo is a very special chili from South America. It comes from the Peruvian Andes and is used in almost every dish. The word AJI means chili in Spanish and Amarillo means yellow. The plant forms long, pointed pods that are around 12 cm long and turn from green to golden yellow - sometimes they can also be slightly yellow-orange. They are extremely aromatic and with an average spiciness level of 5, they are ideal for a delicious chili sauce. The yellow chili is also used for the famous raw fish dish 'Ceviche'. This chili is actually used everywhere in South America and the Incas knew about it several thousand years ago. The bushy and dense growth of the plant is also unusual. Even the leaves, which are almost 30 cm in size, are unusually large for a chili plant, and so the entire plant is naturally more expansive. The flowers are also large, as are the pods, which are 12-15 cm long. Last but not least, the AJI Amarillo also impresses with its high harvest yield. Due to the higher weight, a thicker stem is formed. Since the skin walls of the fruits are thin, they can be dried well and ground into powder or made into a paste. The yellow AJI Amarillo is a must-have for every chili lover. The plants are perennial but not winter hardy.
Give the young plants suitable fertilizer at the beginning of May. Special tomato and pepper fertilizer has a long-term effect and can be easily worked into the nutrient-rich soil. The location should be bright to sunny and warm. The more sunlight the plants get, the better they thrive - 5 hours of sun per day is ideal, but this might be difficult here. Water generously and the water temperature should not be below 14°C. At night the temperature should not fall below 12°C. Chili plants always look neat and become even more beautiful when the fruits turn from green to red in late summer/early autumn or decorate the balcony or terrace in yellow or dark purple. Then the harvest takes place and you can use this versatile species. Enjoy your meal - if possible!
Before sowing, moisten the soil, sprinkle seeds on it, cover very thinly and press down lightly. At 20°-26°C the seeds germinate after 8-14 days. You can also just press the seeds onto the soil, as they are light germinators.
The germination rate is around 75% and only decreases very slowly.
