Giant mountain pitcher plant / 10 seeds
(Sarracenia oreophila - Giant)
The large - green - hardy giant mountain pitcher plant
Interesting facts: This very rare species occurs in Alabama in the USA and thrives in the mountains by rivers and in damp places. But it grows just as well on loamy sandy soils or in swamp-moor areas. In summer, the areas in their natural habitats dry out completely. Under such conditions, only the S. oreophila survives this dryness.
In contrast to the green pitcher plant, the pitchers are shorter and have much stronger veins. The lid protrudes further, offers little protection to the pitcher opening and is bent in a sickle shape.
As a mountain plant, it is particularly robust and completely hardy.
The Sarracenia oreophila can be easily propagated from seeds. It is native to Alabama in the USA.
The pitcher plant can be placed in shade or full sun.
In the home, the pot should always be placed in a saucer filled with water. Outdoors, the plant can also be placed in the swampy area of a pond and even spend the winter there.
The giant mountain pitcher plant is hardy and can survive outdoors without protection. New growth begins in spring.
The seeds can be grown indoors all year round. Place the fine seeds in the bag in the refrigerator for 2 weeks and then sprinkle them on the previously well-moistened growing substrate. At 22° to 28° C, germination takes place after 3 to 7 weeks.
